TURKISH AIRLINES OPEN 2018

GENERAL & BRIEFING SCHEDULE

Wednesday 1st – Briefing Day & Pro-Am

Pro-Am Marshalls

Some of you have already volunteered to Marshal this day. You will be required to walk the course inside the ropes keeping up with or just ahead of play. Your main duty will be to look after the Professional and make sure he has the best chance of playing undisturbed. You will be assigned your Player and  who you will be working with. If you haven’t already offered, places are available if you would like to Volunteer, just come on the day. Briefing will be completed in time to allow you out on to the course. Packed lunches will be available. Make sure you take yours with you.

Wednesday Briefing

This is our main Briefing Day….So please try and be there

With around  200 Volunteers we will split this into 2 Sessions.

Session 1 – Volunteers who will Marshal the Pro-Am, we ask you to arrive at the Sports Centre at 10.00

Session 2 – Volunteers not involved in the Pro-Am, we ask you to arrive at 14.00

NON Pro-Am Volunteers can choose either Session…..but please arrive by 10.30

for Session 1 and by 14.30 for Session 2.

Security will be tight….as always….So entry between the stated times may NOT be possible!.....Make sure you carry Passport ID with you at ALL times.

If you cannot  make either of the Sessions, you will be shown what to do by your ‘Team Leader’ on your first day of working, but we need you to be at the Sports Centre by no later than 8:30 am on your first day.

All those who come on Wednesday will receive Volunteer Badges and all the relevant clothing for the days you are working.

For those who can’t come on the Wednesday you will get everything on your first day of working. PLEASE BE PATIENT with us…..it takes time to “Happily” fit everyone out!

I think that covers most of the necessary “Off” Course” Information…..and we look forward to another Great Tournament……and Thank You ALL again.

On Course Information

Most of you have already been assigned your positions on the Course, and hopefully we will not have to make any changes…..but on the chance of no shows, it may be necessary that we have to make a few alterations….But our aim is to keep you all as happy as possible, and with the people you have requested to work with.

Walking Scoring/ Board carrying – Richard Hartley. Almost all of you who are walking scorers know Richard, and almost none of you will need too much training, having done it in the past. However, can you register with Richard each day so he knows you have arrived and he will allocate you with the flight you will be recording and your board-carrier. We really need you to be there by 8:30 to allocate your flights and cover any mishaps or problems.

PLEASE NOTE – As in previous years we have been as fair as possible, across the whole Tournament in allocating flights and Richard has my support in doing this as he sees fit. As the timings from Day 3 & 4 are released after play, he does this in his own time in the evening.

Board Carrying – Myerscough students will cover this. The teachers from the college will allocate who is carrying which board for which player each day, and this will be liaised with Richard.

Walking Marshalls – Maartje Merx. As none of you will be required until the last flights, you don’t need to be there until 10:00. By then it should be quieter and Maartje will be easy to find. On your first day of working please arrive 30 minutes earlier to obtain your clothing. Maartje will divide you into working groups. Yes of course you can work with your friend.

Each group will also have a Team Co-ordinator. There is too much to write but we will give you this information during training. It is possible as the tournament progresses, one or two of you may be moved to a static position and some of you may be moved forward or back depending on where the crowds are. Like Richard, Maartje has my blessing to do this as she sees fit.

On Course Boards & Tented Village - Hendrik Hollevoet has run the main scoreboards at a number of tournaments and will help those of you working on scoreboards on the course. Where to get radios and what to do. Really it is very simple. Hendrik and his daily team will run the scoreboard in the Tented Village.

For on-course boards most of you have done this before so unless you want to come on Wednesday for clothing and as a walking pro-am marshal, it is not essential. Hendrik can show you where to go on your first day and quickly explain what to do, if needed.

In case of ‘no shows’ I am suggesting you all meet on a daily basis at the entrance to the Sports Arena, just to the right before you go in by 8.45 am.

Static Marshalls (Green, Tee and Crossing Point) – As in previous years there will be Paul Baker covering this. This is by far the biggest and most complex group, so be patient. We need you to be registered with them by 9:00 am each day. If however it is your first day of working and you did not attend the training and have not yet got your clothing then please be there no later than 8:30. This is by far the hardest job in the morning as every day there are so many variables. Please be patient.

A fuller explanation of how we will work this will be given during training. And those so far not assigned I guarantee you will not be left with nothing to do. But with this new system we find ourselves with a small surplus to fill gaps when needed.
